How I Got Rid of Crepey Skin on My Arms — And How You Can Too!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved wearing sleeveless tops and dresses — especially in warm weather or when heading out for an evening in a cocktail dress with elegant spaghetti straps. But when I hit my early 50s, I started noticing something that made me second-guess my wardrobe choices: the appearance of crepey skin on my upper arms.
Even though I was active — doing aerobics and plenty of cardio — the texture of my skin became looser, and my arms started looking a little flabby. It was frustrating because I had worked hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I used to teach aerobics in my 30s, and by then, I’d finally gotten off the rollercoaster of yo-yo dieting. But despite all of that, my arms were starting to look older than I felt.
I remembered my elderly aunt’s loose crepey arms when I was a little girl. I used to get lost in them every time she gave me a hug — and while I adored her, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this what happens to every woman as she gets older?
Well, while crepey skin is natural as women age, it doesn’t have to happen — not if you’re determined to do something about it.
And guess what? By the time I reached my mid- 70s, my arms didn’t just look good for my age — they looked better than they had in my 50s!
Here’s how I did it — and how you can, too.
1. I Stopped Looking for a “Magic Bullet”
When I first noticed crepey skin, I turned to creams that promised to tighten and firm. But even the most expensive ones weren’t making a huge difference. That’s when I realized there wasn’t one single product that would fix this on its own. I needed a more well-rounded approach — one that would address my skin’s texture from the inside and the outside.
2. I Started Using Red Light Therapy
Around this time, my daughter Veronica told me about the LED red light therapy device, made like the Current Body Therapy Mask, that she’d been using on her face for a few months — and the amazing results she was seeing. Her skin was glowing, and the firmness was undeniable.
I decided to try it myself, and I was thrilled with the way my face responded. Red light therapy stimulates collagen production — which we naturally lose as we age — and helps skin look firmer, smoother, and more youthful. And one day, I thought: If it’s doing this much for my face, why not try it on my arms?
So I did.
I started wrapping my Current Body LED red light Neck & Decolletage mask around my upper arms, focusing on the underarm area where my skin was most wrinkled and crepey. I’d strap it on for 10 minutes to 20 minutes, six days a week — and the best part? I could do it while working at my desk, watching TV, or even walking around the house.
Within three months, I started noticing a real difference. My skin looked smoother, and the crepey texture was fading. And over time, the results just kept getting better and better.
There are new and cheaper LED Red Light Therapy products coming on the market, I strongly suggest that you don't waste your money on cheaper masks as you won't get the results you are looking for. Look for masks that have more bulbs that are placed closely together on the mask.
Also the mask should have a 633 wavelength of REDLIGHT and a 830 INFRAREDLIGHT wavelength.
Current Body has been tested as the number one Red Light Therapy on the market and I have personally seen the results.
3. I Hydrated — Deeply
One thing I’ve learned? Crepey skin thrives on dryness. So HYDRATION - both inside and out - is key.
I used a three-step approach to keep my skin deeply moisturized:
• In the morning after my Current Body LED red light therapy (on clean, dry skin), I apply either "Body Firm Crepe Erase" (It’s packed with super hydrating ingredients that are focused on reducing crepey skin) or "Gold Bond’s Age Renew Crepe Corrector" lotion ( It’s a well priced product for crepey skin so I also apply it to my thighs and knees)
I also apply either of these two products mid-day, especially after a shower or bath.
• In the evening, I apply "Body Firm Crepe Erase" concentrating on my underarm area and then spray my arms with a hyaluronic acid mist to improve the absorption of the lotion. The one I love is from Pevonia Hyaluronic acid It helps skin retain moisture, plumping it from within and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I love to also spray it on my face as a toner after cleansing.
• I nourish my skin from the inside out with daily collagen. I add a scoop of collagen powder to my morning coffee every day — and after trying several brands, I found that the AlgaeCal Collagen Complete produced the best results for me.
4. I Incorporated Weight Training
I can’t stress this enough: If you want smooth, toned arms, weight training is non-negotiable.
Now, before you picture bodybuilders lifting massive weights, let me reassure you — that’s not what I’m talking about. I use dumbbells in the range of 8 to 20 pounds. And trust me, that’s plenty to build lean, sculpted muscle.
Weight training doesn’t just improve the shape of your arms — it helps firm and tighten your skin by giving it a strong foundation of muscle underneath. Plus, strength training is crucial as we age for maintaining bone health, improving balance, and keeping our bodies strong for daily life.
5. Consistency Is Everything
The results I’ve achieved didn’t happen overnight. It took three months to see results.
And they didn’t come from one single product or method. It was the combination of red light therapy, deep hydrating lotions, collagen, and weight training that made the difference. And the most important factor of all? Consistency.
I committed to this routine, and I stuck with it. And now, at 75 years old, I am no longer self conscious about my arms.
